Paleohora

Paleohora is situated at the southern part of the island, 3 klm. from Perahori. The area was firstly inhabited during the Middle Ages and was the most important settlement on the island until the early years of the Venetian period.

Nowadays, there are ruins of houses and roofless Byzantine churches which unfortunately lay half destroyed and deserted.

Palaioxora Monastery

The area's architecture is quite interesting since it has a clear defensive character. The one or two-storey houses have few openings and no balconies. The distance between houses shows the inhabitants' mixed origin.
