| The area around Monopolata has been inhabited since ancient times. A short distance from the village the archaeologist Spyros Marinatos discovered in 1934 a Mycenean burial ground (dating from 1300 – 1100 BC) containing rich archaeological finds, from clay containers and copper objects to a sarcophagus.All the finds are kept at the Archaeological Museum in Argostoli. |
