THE MYCENEAN TOMB AT POROS |
The recent
discovery of and research into the great vaulted tomb from the Mycenean period, which was
found at Brougi in Tzannata, shows that this area was inhabited long before the
prehistoric period. The tomb is the largest and best-preserved of all the tombs found on the island. With a diameter of 6.8 metres, it was built into the rocky sides of the hill. Inside the tomb many graves were found dating from 1400 to 1000 BC. This tomb indicates the presence of a powerful Mycenean centre, probably linked with Homer’s Ithaka. |
