THE ARCHAELOGICAL MUSEUM


T
he Archaeological Museum in the capital of Kefalonia is the caretaker of our island’s ancient history. The old Museum was destroyed in the 1953 earthquakes and was eventually rebuilt in 1960. Today it is a place where visitors go to admire Kefalonia’s early history.

  The Museum houses finds from prehistoric and Roman times, with the largest number of exhibits being from the Mycenean period. Standing in front of the Museum’s display cases, you can admire the ancient gold coins, bronze swords, official seals, precious beads and tools belonging to palaeolithic Kefalonian man, as well as examples of ancient geometrical ceramics.
The early collections of finds discovered by Georgios Kavadias is sure to catch your attention.
