THE IAKOVATIOS LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

  The Iakovatios Library is located on the western outskirts of Lixouri and is housed in the renovated pre-earthquake mansion belonging to the Typaldi-Iakovatos family. It was restored in 1984.
  It consists of 14 rooms with wood-panelled ceilings, which are a feature of aristocratic houses, as are the 30,000 books, of which one fifth are 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th century editions.
Iakovatio Museum
  The Library Museum takes up one floor of the building and among its collection you can see documents belonging to the Iakovatos brothers, ecclesiastic vestments, antique furniture, the Metropolitan’s bedroom suite, portraits, an 1854 leaden seal, a psalter in 4 languages, prelatic garments, bishops’ crosses etc.
 
  The Museum also contains:
  • 36 outstanding icons of which the 2 most notable are “The Assembly of Archangels” by Philotheos Skoufos and “ To en Honais thavma” by Michael Damaskinos.
  • 3 Gospels from 10th, 14th and 15th century parchments, written on animal skins.
  • The Complete Works of Plato, Venetian edition 1556.
